Is it Really Better than Sex?

Is it Really Better than Sex? Cake

By

Paula Dean

I wanted my first recipe to grab your attention. Did it work?

Since I don't cook a lot, I'm a little light on baking supplies. This recipe calls for a 9x13 baking dish. So, I went into my pantry to grab an old tin foil pan I had purchased during the holidays last year. Looks like I either used it or got tired of looking at it and tossed it.

Off to the store I went in search of a baking pan good enough for Miss Paula's recipe. I ended up buying a Carbon Steel Baking Pan with Silicon Grip. Whoa!

I also thought I had some coconut. I have no idea why I would think that; remembering the holidays again. So, my cake was coconut-less. Another change I made was to purchase a Pineapple Cake Mix from Pillsbury . It sounded more flavorful than a plain old yellow cake.

That cake smelled heavenly while baking. It was extremely easy to make - gotta love that - it's so rich you'll only want a very small piece. So, you can basically feed the whole neighborhood on one cake. Make sure you pour yourself a great cup of coffee, too.

To answer the question, "Is it better than sex?". I can only answer by saying that it depends upon your partner. Wink. Wink.

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 18.25 ounce box yellow cake mix, plus ingredients to prepare
  • 1 20 oz can crushed pineapple
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1 3.4 oz box French Vanilla pudding, plus ingredients to prepare
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup flaked, sweetened toasted coconut

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Prepare yellow cake mix as directed using a greased 13x9x2-inch pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.  While cake is baking, combine the pineapple and 1 cup of sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.  Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

Remove cake from oven and using a fork, pierce holes into cake.  Pour pineapple mixture over hot cake and set aside.

Prepare pudding according to package directions.  Spread pudding over cake and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.  Whip heavy cream and remaining sugar until stiff.  Cover top of cake with whipped cream and sprinkle toasted coconut on top.

Resist the urge to smear it all over your body!

Doin' the Snoopy Dance: I Hit 100K Points Today!

Help me congratulate one of my team members for her dedication to Active Rain.

Via Heather Chavez, Second Self Virtual Assistance (928) 412-4469 (Second Self Virtual Assistance):

I'm SO doin' the Snoopy Dance right now.  After 7 months, 195 posts (today's makes 196), 2885 comments made, 2667 comments received, 51 blog subscribers, 66 associations, creating 1 group, inviting 1 member to join, 1 featured post and 1 Active Rain workshop, I am please to announce that:

I hit 100,000 points today!

Start the music, Schroeder:

The points are great, but they are not the only reason I am doin' the Snoopy Dance.  OK, the points are fabulous for a competitive soul like myself.  I have to admit...I've wanted that little black box at the bottom of my photo ever since I first knew what it meant.  And now I get one.  Yippeee!  However, what I found that is so much more valuable along the way to 100,000 points was a community of interesting, fun, sometimes nerve-wracking people that make logging onto the web as comfortable as a well-worn pair of jammies at the end of the day.

Doin' the Snoopy dance in the Rain; 100,000 points and counting!I have learned so much about making my blog posts better from Active Brad Andersohn, Jeremy Blanton and "sockless" Bob Stewart (not to be confused with "Shoeless Joe Jackson").  While they are not the only ones greasing the Active Rain wheel, they have been helpful to me in particular (I can be quite a squeaky wheel).  Always there with helpful insight or figuring out a better way to make the Rain fall, these guys and their other Active Rain co-horts are what make this such a great community.

I have met some fantastic people here as well and made some genuine friendships along the way.  Thanks to Active Brad and Bob Stewart's workshop held in Phoenix earlier this month, I was able to meet face-to-face with Carra Riley (the Cosmic Cow-Pie Queen), Lori Martinez and Miss Anna "Banana" (who made us all honorary "bananas").  And, while not face-to-face, I was happy to have become friends with Chris Fisher, a fellow virtual assistant and an extremely kind, generous and warm human being, and Mary Yonkers, a real estate teacher whom I will be meeting face-to-face soon.

I also learned alot from other fellow Rainers, like Lenn Harley, whom ALL of you have seen when you first look at the ActiveRain.com site, Miss C Tann Starr, the reigning (wordy) queen of all things Club Chaos, Michael Thornton, who know how to make blogs "POP", Russel Ray and his cool cat Zoey, who has some of the most amazing photos in his posts and is an all-around fun guy, Gary Woltal, always there with words of wisdom and sanity, and so many more that I couldn't begin to count them all!

OK, Bob.  I know, I know.  There are more links than there should be in a regular post, but I don't care!  I'm done gushing about how happy I am to have met this milestone.  I gotta go finish up my Snoopy dance now.  I gotta figure out how to get to 200,000 points before the end of the year.  (I told you I was competitive!)  But first, I think I have to go do another Snoopy dance.  Dah-dah-dun-dah dah dah daaah dah!

It Takes More Than a Village

You have heard the saying "it takes a village", right?  Well, in real estate, it takes a more than a village to get the job done!  Have you ever thought of how many people are involved in a real estate transaction all the way from county records to closing an escrow?  I would not be surprised to find that over a thousand hands are involved in every transaction.

Today, it is more important than ever to surround yourself with good support systems and village people (team members).  As in any village, there are some things you cannot control, some things that you can influence and some that are very much within your power to control.

In your village, you can select the systems and the people that will help you get the job done.  It is important to build a relationship with strategic partners, such as home and termite inspectors, title reps and officers, lenders and escrow people.

The support systems you use for contact management, website management and marketing (offline and online) are vital to the survival of your business.  With today's technology, you can build a support system that will allow you to achieve the goals you have set for yourself.  Technology has given you many choices, but managing all of the options can sometimes be a daunting experience.

There is another saying: "you are as successful as the 5 people closest to you."  So, be sure to surround yourself with people in your village that support you and your vision.  Choose the people who support your mindset, business principles and lifestyle.

Tweet Up, Twitter, Peeps, Tweets, Twibes is it all in the Cosmic Cow Pie to you?

Tweet Up, Twitter, Peeps, Tweets, Twibes is it all in the Cosmic Cow Pie to you?

It all sounded like noise to me but once I started to understand how it works, I could see it is a wonderful way to get information out to the masses and meet new people in cyberspace.

This article will discuss How To Hold a Tweet Up.

To understand Twitter it just takes some CALM time to decipher the language and understand the principle of how it works.

Twitter is basically a microblog of 140 characters you are sending out to people who are following you.  You can send links to blogs, discounts and interesting websites.  From a business standpoint you have 140 characters to bring someone to action and fall on a landing page to receive more information.

A Tweet Up is a meeting where people from the area get together in real time to meet each other.  It is a 21st century way of networking and meeting new friends in business and socially.  Below is a video of a Tweet up in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Steps to set up a Tweet Up.

1.  Determine a date you would like to have the personal meet up with people who Twitter in your area. Immediately after work is a good time, like a relaxing after work atmosphere or consider a breakfast gathering. You decide what is easy for you since you are in charge... think about when people would want to come and join you.

2.  Determine a location for the Tweet up.  Some Tweet Ups are held at a local restaurants where you can work out a discount with the manager for a room, food and drinks.  Tweets Ups can be held at a business/ we held one at an art gallery which was fun and the owner got good publicity. The video shows a tweet up where everyone brought a dish for a pot luck.  Try different ideas as there are no rules.  When you find something that works please share it with us. When you read about the Twtvites below you will see examples of many different ideas.

3.  Invite Peeps. Peeps are people who follow you on Twitter. Start with a local area Twibe. Twibes are groups of Peeps who Tweet in a specific geographic location. Invite everyone in the local Twibes. You can also find people who twitter in a specific location with Tweet Beep, an application where you can searach words like the city to connect with.

4.  Create a Twtvitehttp://twtvite.com/  Twtvite is an event manager tool that helps you organize Tweetups and make meaningful connections through social media. Go to this site and find Tweet ups in your area.  It is a great tool and a link you should open and become familiar with. This link was for the video tweet up in Flagstaff, Arizona. http://twtvite.com/yv5yoj  navigate through the site and you can see who came and follow people who RSVP'd.

5.  Start Tweeting.  Once your time and location has been set, start Tweeting or posting information on your Tweet Up.

6.  Come to the party and be ready to mingle and network... Don't sell... just be there and share!

Hot Flashes are FREE!

Free Hot Flash real estate newsletterI know Hot Flashes are free because I have so many of them.  Not only do I have them, but I forward them on to my real estate friends, free of charge!  Ask any lady, who has had the wonderful hot flash experience and she will tell you that you never know, when the next one is coming. I am proud to say that my hot flashes follow that policy as well.

Now, I really don't know what the purpose of a mid-life hot flash is nor do I know why they happen, but I do know how to have fun with them.  Hot Flashes are my "when life serves you lemons...make lemonade!"

A few months ago, I was looking for an inspiration to deliver something of value, something "above and beyond" and what did I get?  Another hot flash!  Thus the inspiration for my HOT FLASHESHot is for "hot off the press" and Flash is for "newsflash".

Whenever I come across some valuable tidbit, a time-sensitive offering or something newsworthy, I send a HOT FLASH to all of my real estate friends.  Now, just like real hot flashes, you never know when the next one is coming.  Sometimes, they come in rapid-fire succession and sometimes, they are a little more spaced over time.  But one thing is for sure, you know another one is coming soon.

If you want a HOT FLASH of your very own, just say "sign me up" in the comment section and I will share my next HOT FLASH with you.

Facebook post takes off in the Cosmic Cow Pie.

Read the facebook thread below and then continue on the activerain blog with comments.  I am working on a project with ideas about "Who were you nice to today?"  Please read this, think of some things you have done to help people and share with us!

Carra RileyCarra Riley

Today's question..

Who were you nice to today?

If you were nice to someone yesterday or in the past... share it here.

Would you like to see, hear and read only good things?

  Cindy Craw AB

To be honest, I *don't* want to see, hear, and read only good things. The world should not be seen through the eyes of someone with both blinders and rose-colored glasses on. (To mix metaphors.) The world is broken in a million ways; *people* are broken in a million ways and need more than encouragement and smiley faces to be repaired. As one of my pieces of flair says, "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention!"
And I'm *nice*!

 Shannon Scheuermann DeRosby CD

I want to see, hear and read good things. There is enough other crap out there to not focus on the good. I'll take a smiley face..thank you! :-)

Carra Riley Carra Riley

Hey AB... I feel the same way about the crises in America... am just processing it in MY way... I see you on B Elwin Sherman's  http://humoristonloan.squarespace.com/  facebook post today.. and you can READ.. where I am coming from.. we each choose to process the "Cosmic Cow Pie" the way we want to... I choose the glass half full... the other choice is yours and yours alone... You are in charge of the monkeys on your back and how you want to handle them. I respect that and love the fact we all are in charge of ourselves! and I know you are *nice* and you play HONEST in the cyber sand box!

My question of the day... refers to HELPING our brothers and sisters in some small way, opening a door for someone, helping someone fix something, seeing someone with a human need and DOING something about it! That is how I see we make a difference in the world... one person at a time.. being a good neighbor in a generic sense.  May I have your permission to use this as a blog I just started? I would like to get many different types of input.

Barbara Cummings EF

I used to carry mail which brought me in close contact with hundreds of people every day. I saw first hand the power of a big smile, a few kind words, simply amazing. To see the joy from a simple HELLO, really made my day!

 Cindy Craw AB

I am not the grim, dour, dreary sort of person that I may have come across as. I just know that if I am busy seeking my own happiness, I would not be advocating for the homeless, the poverty-stricken, the elderly, feeding the hungry, or for providing inspiring literature to be placed in our church library. I see needs and I try to fill those needs to the best of my ability. I don't see mere optimism as faith in action. It's like praying for the man beside the road who was beaten and robbed instead of being the Good Samaritan who helped the man to his feet, took him to an inn to be doctored and cared for, and paid for it out of his own pocket. Our points of view are really parallel. We just have different approaches to helping others in our own ways.

 GH

I sent an email to Ross at Laughlin Ranch... to tell him what a great job they did on the Harvest Moon Ball. I know he hears complaints when things go wrong. We all are ready to let businesses and people know when they have not lived up to our expectations... but how many times do we take the time to point it out when they do a great job? I heard back from him and he said his nerves had been frazzled due to weather and other things trying to make it a perfect evening so my compliment to him and his staff meant more to him than he could express... Everyone needs a lift... not just the obviously less fortunate people in the world.

Carra Riley Carra Riley

Now that's what I'm talkin about! Good engagement from everyone sharing and learning from each other!

To activerain readers:

I would like for you to continue this discussion with ideas on what you have been doing to be nice to people.

Who were you nice to today?

LeapFish - It's a Hit!

This one is a big hit with me.  Since discovering this handy-dandy search tool, I use it all the time.

LeapFish.com allows you to search the three biggest search engines with just one search inquiry.  In addition, with a click of a button, you will also receive results for News, Yahoo Answers, videos, images, shopping and blogs.

Search the three biggest search engines in one place with LeapFish.com.

Simply type in your search inquiry, press enter and viola!  There are the search results.  Google is the default, but just click on Yahoo or MSN and the results are there for those search engines as well.  Now, just select one of the widgets under the search engine selection to view the matching search results for blogs, news, answers or videos and photos.

"LeapFish is more than just a simple aggregator that displays websites from other search engines. LeapFish is a multimedia search engine that combines and renders the best of the web in the form of sites, videos, news, images, blogs and more from the most popular and widely accepted destinations including Google, Yahoo, Youtube, CNET, Yelp and a growing list of over 200 other authorities in a single search interface. We believes it's time for a multimedia search."

"Similar to technologies found at major portals such as DogPile.com, LeapFish utilizes proprietary hyper-threading technology to communicate with all major online portals and their API's simultaneously to deliver the various search results from across the web to users in a single search query."

Another feature which makes LeapFish "leap" in front of the rest is its very reasonable advertising program.

  • No Pay-Per-Click.
  • One time fee secures a permanent position.
  • Fee is based on the keyword and desired position.
  • Keep it forever or sell it when the value goes up.

Want to add some residual income to your piggyy bank? Check out the LeapFish Affilate Program.

SWINE FLU ADVISORY!

Go ahead - laugh out loud!

Via Pacita C Dimacali, Alameda & Contra Costa CA real estate (Gallagher & Lindsey, Inc. 510 748 1148):

IF YOU WAKE UP LOOKING LIKE THIS.....don't go to work. Most likely, you have the swine flu!

Just had to share. This is too funny not to pass around on a Friday!

Blogging to Buyers and Sellers

Why should you write posts to your blog?  To get buyers and sellers to come to you.  This blog is rather like "preaching to the choir" since many people reading this post either already have a blog or typically read blogs.  Most Active Rain members understand how important the Internet is and how much it influences their business now and will in the future.  However, the majority of real estate agents do not have websites nor do they blog or participate in social media.  The public has made the move to the cyber world.  But, the majority of real estate agents have not.  It is so important that the real estate agent of today move their marketing efforts forward and take advantage of the opportunities the Internet provides them.

Writing a blog for buyers and sellers should be an important part of your marketing plan.Whether a buyer or a seller, approximately 84% of Internet users begin their real estates search online, according to the California Association of Realtors®.  Prospective sellers are checking out their neighborhoods to research what they think the market value will be and what is happening with their future competition.  Buyers are checking out areas and neighborhoods, not so much by price but by pictures.  Many are using the street and/or satellite view maps so that they can "see" the property before they see the house.  Internet users who are relocating are checking out schools, neighborhoods and crime reporting sites before (physically) search for a home in their new city.  Are you beginning to see why blogging to buyers and sellers can be such a benefit to your business?

Internet buyers spend more time on the net doing their own research and less time physically looking for a home.  Prospective sellers look at various agents website to see what type of Internet marketing they do.  Buyers typically access eight real estate portals and websites before selecting their agent.  Sellers typically access six real estate agent websites before deciding on who to call.  With all this time on the internet, you really need to make sure to start blogging for buyers and sellers.

One aspect of real estate which has not changed is the number of FSBO homes sold.  Yes, buyers are still looking for a good professional to help them buy their home.  Sellers are still looking for someone else to negotiate the contract, meet state requirements and manage the paperwork.  Buyers and sellers are looking to the Internet to find you.  It is up to you to be sure they do.

To make yourself known to the Internet user, make it all about them.  Today, good marketing means good service.  The Internet allows you to provide Internet users with quality information and helpful tools.  Good marketing means sharing knowledge.  The Internet allows you to share your expertise to a vast audience in your weekly blog.  Good marketing means "getting out there and meeting people" . The Internet allows you to meet thousands of people a day via social networks while building a relationship of trust with them even before you meet in person.

The Internet is the greatest tool ever created take advantage of it - make yourself known by blogging to buyers and sellers.
